School Bullying in Secondary Education: Teachers’ Attitudes and Perceptions, Early Holistic Interventions.
This study investigates the knowledge and opinions of secondary education teachers in the Attica region regarding the prevention and handling of school bullying incidents. Specifically, it aims to document their views on the phenomenon of school bullying as it occurs in public middle and high schools in the central and northern sectors of Attica, the methods they currently use for the prevention and management of such incidents, and their suggestions for designing and implementing effective educational programs on school bullying in secondary education. School violence is a phenomenon that has not only been observed in modern societies but has existed for several decades. What differentiates today is perhaps the increasing number and variety of violent incidents, which, over time, become more intense. While numerous studies have been conducted on this phenomenon in European literature, the Greek literature, unfortunately, is lacking in this area. The theoretical approach of this study will be mainly based on European literature, as, as already mentioned, the domestic literature is extremely limited, particularly regarding proposals and methods for recognizing, preventing, and addressing school bullying in secondary education. The research methodology will be qualitative, with the primary research tool being the semi-structured interview, as it provides the opportunity to deeply explore the views and personal experiences of teachers. Subsequently, the researcher will present proposals and methods to mitigate the phenomenon, based on relevant European programs, which will first be adapted to the Greek reality. The aim of this study is to develop holistic approaches to addressing school violence and bullying, involving and contributing all members of the school community in collaboration with institutions and the local community.
