Assessing Quality of Life and Well-being among prisoners and staff in Greek penitentiaries
The study aims to investigate the quality of life and well-being of prisoners and staff within Greek prisons, with a particular focus on assessing the prevalence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among staff members. By delving into these aspects, the aim is to address critical analytical aspects of the social dynamics within these institutions and to redefine the concept of incarceration to include fair treatment, improved quality of life, and improved physical and mental health.
The study aims to assess the current quality of life of prisoners concerning their physical health, mental well-being, and access to health care services and to explore the influence of environmental and social factors, such as overcrowding and exposure to violence, on the mental health of prisoners. At the same time, it seeks to measure the quality of life of prison staff members, examining how their job satisfaction and stress levels affect their overall well-being, particularly in their work environment characterized by potential violence and interactions with delinquent individuals.
Through quantitative and qualitative approaches to comprehensively capture the social climate and individual experiences, the aim is to understand the complex dynamics of Greek prisons and highlight the importance of promoting health, well-being, and respect in the prison environment.
